Therapy approaches
CBT online: cognitive behavioural therapy
CBT is based on the link between thoughts, feelings and behaviour. When one changes, the others follow. Your therapist helps you notice automatic thoughts, test them against what actually happens, and try different responses.
How it works
It is a collaborative, goal-focused therapy. You agree on what to work on and practise between sessions, which is where much of the change happens.
Who it suits
People who like structure, practical tools and a clear sense of progress.
What sessions look like
- Clear goals agreed at the start
- A structure to each session: review, learn or practise, plan
- Small experiments and exercises between sessions
- Usually short-term, often six to twenty sessions
