Online therapy
Online therapy in the UK
See a qualified therapist from anywhere in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. No GP referral and no waiting list. You choose who you work with.
Why people choose online therapy in the UK
No waiting list
NHS Talking Therapies is free and worth knowing about, but waits can be long and the number of sessions is limited. Private online therapy can start within days and run alongside NHS care.
Not limited by postcode
Good therapists are unevenly spread. Online, you can choose the right person whether you live in central London or the Highlands.
Evenings and weekends
Sessions fit around work, study and family, with no travel time.

Therapy titles in the UK
“Counsellor” and “psychotherapist” are not protected titles in the UK, so anyone can use them. What matters is membership of a professional register accredited by the Professional Standards Authority, such as BACP, UKCP or NCPS.
Psychologist titles such as “clinical psychologist” and “counselling psychologist” are protected by law and require registration with the HCPC.
Your therapist may live anywhere in the world, but everyone we match you with is registered to practise for clients in the UK.
Every mymind profile shows the therapist’s title and the register they belong to, so you can check it yourself.
If you need help right now
mymind is not an emergency service. These services are.

Common questions
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can start with mymind directly. It can still be helpful to tell your GP how you are feeling, especially if medication might be part of your care.
Can I have private therapy while waiting for NHS therapy?
Yes. Many people start privately while on an NHS waiting list. Let both services know, so your care is joined up.
How do I know a therapist is properly qualified?
Check that they are on a register accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (for example BACP, UKCP or NCPS) or, for psychologists, registered with the HCPC. We check this before a therapist joins and show it on their profile.
